Mahri has been exploring movement in varied forms for as long as she can remember. As a child this exploration focused on gymnastics, which later transformed into a fascination with modern and jazz dance. She found her way to her first yoga class in 1997 and has been hooked ever since.
In 2003 she received her 200 hour yoga teacher certification at the Sivananda Yoga Ashram in Nassau, Bahamas. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance and has been teaching Hatha yoga classes since 2003. Mahri has been influenced by many styles of yoga including Iyengar, Anusara, Kundalini, Vinyasa, and Integral. Part of her philosophy is the idea that most styles of Hatha yoga are like different paths leading to the same destination. In class she aims to provide a gentle and nurturing space for her students to experience greater awareness of the physical body, the mind, the breath and the energetic or subtle body. Mahri believes that students may be able to glimpse a connection to something greater than the self by experiencing new sensations and reaching certain depths in their asana practice (physical postures).
Mahri also enjoys hiking, skiing, biking, kayaking, rock climbing and working for social justice, and seeks to find intersections between her yoga practice, recreational pursuits, and daily life.
